The recent update from LP Consulting comes amidst reports that a large portion of funds allocated under the CARES Act have not yet been claimed. Their services are designed to identify small businesses that are entitled to a tax credit and assist them with the application process.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act of 2020 allocated some $367 billion in funds to help small businesses retain staff during the pandemic. Initially, businesses were required to choose between the employee retention tax credit or the parallel Payment Protection Program (PPP) loan service.
As part of the recent announcement, LP Consulting advises that those companies who received a PPP loan are also eligible for ERTC, which was part of revisions to the CARES Act in 2021. The firm points out that ERTC is not a loan, and businesses that qualify could receive a refundable tax credit of up to $26,000 per employee.
The revised process involves completion of a short questionnaire via the firm’s online portal. LP Consulting has teamed with a firm of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) who will calculate the credit that businesses may be eligible for, and offer assistance with preparing and filing amended payroll forms.
